2016 was a great year!
For many, 2016 was a year of trials, anger, and frustration. In 2016, I chose to focus on living life, looking at the silver lining and being inspired by adventures. Overall, for me, 2016 was a busy and fantastic year! In the final weeks of 2016, I was able to reflect on the trips I’ve taken, the experiences I’ve had, and the knowledge I’ve gained.
January – Maui
I started off the year traveling with my husband and two of my best friends to Maui, Hawaii. We decided starting off the year in a warm and tropical climate would be a great way to kick off the new year. We were right! We spent the week diving, relaxing in the sun, and eating our way across the island. We even booked a reservation to golf the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course. While none of us are golf pros, and spent a lot of time chasing our golf balls, we had a blast! This golf course was extremely challenging, but we didn’t notice since it was in the most beautiful setting.
February – Cozumel Cruise
In February, I had the opportunity to go on a cruise for work. We travelled from Tampa to Cozumel on a 3 day cruise. Of course, I brought my dive gear along with me, so once we made our port stop in Cozumel, I was able to get in a couple of quick dives.
March – Texas – Alamo
In March I traveled to San Antonio. Thankfully one of my last meetings of the day cancelled, so I did a quick road trip to see the Alamo.
April – Olympic Lifting
In April I competed in my first Olympic Lifting meet of the year.
May was pretty quiet.
June – Washington State Olympic Lifting Championships (Masters)
In the beginning of June I competed in my next olympic lifting meet, the Washington State Olympic Lifting Championships and took second in Masters (Age 35 and above).
July – Seward, Alaska – San Francisco, California
At the end of June, I made my annual trip to Seward, Alaska for the 4th of July. I was joined my my puppy Khaleesi, and was able to see my husband who had been fishing commercially for the past 5 months.
This year, we climbed Mt. Marathon, taking the long way up and the race trail down. Mt. Marathon is 3,000 ft elevation in 1 mile.
From Alaska, I headed straight down to San Francisco to spend time with my friend and co-worker, and concert buddy! We spent a day hiking, and then went to see Coldplay on their Head Full of Dreams Tour.
August – Las Vegas, Nevada
I then went to Las Vegas, Nevada for a conference, and had a private concert with Maroon 5! That was pretty incredible.
September – Seward, Alaska to Yellowstone, Wyoming
At the end of August and into September, I went back up to Seward, Alaska to visit my husband. The fishing season is almost over now! Yay! My husband left to go back out fishing a day sooner than expected, so my last night there, when there were reports of the northern lights, my brother in law and I went out hunting. So cool to finally see these in person,
In September, I took a quick 3 day road trip with my parents to Wyoming for my Aunt’s wedding. We stayed just outside of Yellowstone, and of course did a power tour of the park. To this day it is still one of my favorite national parks.
It was raining while we were waiting for Old Faithful, but we are Washingtonians, a little rain and thunderstorm won’t stop us.
October – Austin City Limits Festival (ACLFest 2016) – Bonaire – Los Angeles, California
After that, I took a trip to Austin for Austin City Limits! Austin is such a fun and beautiful place. It is now one of my top 5 cities in the U.S.
I came home for a total of 4 days to pick my husband up for the year and then was off to Bonaire with my friends for our annual adventure!
My husband and I then did a two day turnaround and decided to take a road trip with our 2 fur children from Washington to Southern California so I could see my favorite band of all time close out their last tour. We left on a Wednesday and were home again by Monday.
November & December
After this last trip, we decided the holidays at home and with family sounded pretty good. Cheers to a great year and a fantastic 2017 full of life, mistakes and adventures!
